Online game company The9 (Nasdaq:NCTY) made a net loss of RMB 73.6 million ($10.8 million), a 7% reduction from a net loss of RMB 79.2 million ($11.6 million) in the prior quarter and compared with net income of RMB 80.5 million ($11.8 million) in the third quarter of 2008, the company reported November 24. Fully diluted loss per American depository share (ADS) for the quarter came to RMB 2.93 ($0.43), compared with diluted loss per share of RMB 3.15 ($0.46) in the second quarter of 2009 and diluted earnings per share of RMB 2.91 ($0.43) in the year-ago period. The9 reported total net revenues of RMB 25.5 million ($3.7 million) in the quarter, down 91% sequentially and 94% year-on-year, which the company attributed to the expiration of its license agreement to operate World of Warcraft (WoW) in China in June. Net revenues attributable to operations of non-WoW games increased 55% quarter-on-quarter, according to the report. Aggregate active users increased by 6% quarter-on-quarter to 3.4 million, while aggregate active paying accounts increased 48% sequentially to 108,000 in the third quarter, the report said.
